MICHOACAN
Michoacán, home to the Purépecha people, is one of the most renowned states in Mexico for its Día de los Muertos celebrations, particularly in indigenous communities like Pátzcuaro, Tzintzuntzan, and Janitzio Island. Rooted in centuries-old Purépecha traditions, families prepare ofrendas adorned with cempasúchil flowers, sugar skulls, candles, and favorite foods of the departed, while women craft intricate floral arches to welcome the spirits home. Throughout the day, relatives keep vigil at the graves of their ancestors, offering prayers, music, and traditional foods like corundas and atole.
