The Tren Maya is a 950-mile railway looping through the Mexican states of Campeche, Chiapas, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, and Tabasco. The $28 billion project is seen by some as a positive development for the community, creating over 140,000 jobs and facilitating eco-friendly transportation throughout the region. Despite these potential benefits, the project has drawn criticism for its environmental and social impact. The construction process, particularly on Section 5, has involved significant deforestation, endangering wildlife and threatening the delicate ecosystem of the rainforest.
