GUERRERO
Guerrero, a state on Mexico’s Pacific coast, is home to diverse indigenous communities, including the Nahua, Mixtec, and Amuzgo peoples, who honor Día de los Muertos with deeply rooted traditions. In towns like Zitlala, Xochistlahuaca, and Tlapa de Comonfort, families create elaborate altars adorned with cempasúchil flowers, copal incense, and traditional foods to welcome the spirits of their ancestors. Many communities also hold vigils in cemeteries, where relatives gather to share stories, light candles, and celebrate the continuity of life and death.
