CAMPECHE

Campeche, a state on Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, is home to indigenous Maya communities that celebrate Día de los Muertos with traditions deeply tied to their ancestral beliefs. Known locally as Hanal Pixán, or "Food for the Souls," the celebration blends ancient Maya rituals with Catholic influences.

As part of Hanal Pixán, families in the community of Pomuch carefully remove the remains of their deceased relatives from ossuaries, gently dust off the bones, and wrap them in embroidered cloths. This sacred act is done with deep reverence, symbolizing the eternal bond between the living and the dead.
