Bacalar Lake is home to ancient stromatolites, which are among the oldest life forms on Earth. They play a crucial role in maintaining water quality by filtering the water and contributing to its clarity and purity. Stromatolites are highly sensitive to environmental changes and human activities. Pollution, tourism, and land development pose significant threats to their survival.

The cenotes of Bacalar Lake are vital to the lake's health and the region's biodiversity. The cenotes play a crucial role in feeding Bacalar Lake with fresh, clear water. Efforts are underway to protect the cenotes and the delicate ecosystems they support. This includes monitoring water quality and regulating tourism activities.

About the artist:

Antonella is originally from Argentina and specialized in fashion design. She worked for various clothing brands in her country, but her true journey began when she decided to explore Latin America in search of new experiences.

Upon arriving in Mexico, she took an embroidery workshop in Chiapas that sparked a deep passion in her for this craft technique. She continued her journey and fell in love with Bacalar, in Quintana Roo, where she has been living for over 7 years. The landscapes of this magical place inspire her every day to create unique hand-embroidered pieces.

Each of her creations reflects the beauty and magic of the landscapes of Quintana Roo, taking inspiration from the region's lush flora and fauna. Every stitch is a tribute to nature, capturing the essence and serenity of these landscapes in every detail.
